1930/40s Make Do & Mend Silk Blend Floral Printed Dress
A really pretty dress dating from the late 1930/40s.
Handmade. Make do and mend i would thing from the early war years.
Made from a light weight either silk or silk rayon blend fabric in a multi floral print. This is on the top bodice and skirt. The very top of the neckline is edged in a different blue floral fabric to match the waistband. Gives a lovely contrast!.
Square neckline with lots of seam detail with top stitching. Gathered longer sleeves.
Top stitching seams down the bodice and the front of the skirt. Hard to photograph.
The dress just pulls over the head there are no side openings.
It has a tie belt at one time but it has been cut off.
Lightly padded shoulders.
One inverted pleat at the bottom hem.
Condition.
In good wearable condition. The fabric is good and strong throughout. There has been several areas of reverse patch repairs to hole on the front and back. Can’t be seen from the front. Tiny amount of pink colour bleed on the waist band, just above the bottom flower.
MEASUREMENTS
Shoulders seam to seam 14” but its fairly roomy and would accommodate 15”
Bust up to 40”
Waist 28/30” slight give to the fabric but you need to allow room to pull on.
Hip 36”
